BREAKING: Kidnapped NYSC Ex-DG Regains Freedom After 22 Days In Captivity, Speaks on Nigeria’s Worsening Insecurity

A former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Major General Mahrazu Tsiga (rtd), has finally regained his freedom after spending 22 days in captivity.

Tsiga was released by his abductors on Friday and is currently receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital for security reasons.

Speaking from his hospital bed, the retired general expressed deep concern over the deteriorating security situation in Nigeria, describing it as "worrisome and deeply troubling." He lamented that even law-abiding citizens are no longer safe in their homes, stressing that the country’s security system has been severely compromised.

“I urge Nigerians to remain vigilant because nobody is safe, not even in their own homes. The situation is alarming, and something must be done urgently to address this menace,” he warned.

Tsiga, who was abducted from his residence in Tsifa Village, Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State on February 6, 2025, promised to address the press officially once he is discharged from the hospital.

Recall that his kidnappers, led by a notorious bandit kingpin identified as Babaro, had demanded a ransom of N250 million for his release. However, it remains unclear whether any money was paid.

Government officials and security agencies, including the Katsina State Police Command, have yet to comment on his release.

During the attack, two individuals sustained varying degrees of injuries, while one of the gunmen was mistakenly shot dead by a member of his gang.

Tsiga’s abduction and subsequent statement further highlight the urgent need for a comprehensive overhaul of Nigeria’s security system to curb the rising wave of criminal activities across the country.
