Former Governor of Sokoto State, Attahiru Bafarawa, has officially announced his defection to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Bafarawa, who resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in January, made his declaration today, Tuesday, March 11, 2025, during a press briefing in Sokoto. He cited his vision for youth empowerment, innovation, and national development as key motivations for joining SDP.
In his statement, Bafarawa described the SDP as a platform that aligns with his progressive ideals and commitment to fostering inclusive governance.
"The SDP represents the future of Nigeria, where leadership is centered on the people. I am here to contribute my experience and vision to build a stronger and more prosperous nation," he said.
The former governor’s defection is expected to shake up the political landscape in Sokoto State and beyond, as speculations grow about his possible role in the party’s 2027 electoral strategy.
