BREAKING: Police Officers Terrorising, Kidnapping Travellers on Enugu/Port Harcourt Expressway, Nabbed and Dismissed

Nigerian Police Dismiss Three Officers For Abduction and Extortion

The Nigeria Police Force, Abia State Command, has dismissed three officers over conspiracy, abduction, and extortion of travellers and residents in Enugu/Port Harcourt Expressway in Abia State.

According to a statement from Maureen Chioma Chinaka, the Police Public Relations Officer for Abia State Command, the dismissed officers are Sergeant Jonas Nnamdi, Corporal James Daniel, and Corporal Ifeanyi Emeka. The officers were arrested on January 29, 2025, by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Abayi after they were found armed with an electric baton, an assault rifle, and a Beretta pistol.

The officers had allegedly conspired to hire a minibus, abduct civilians along the Port-Harcourt Expressway, and extort money from them. They would later demand additional money from the families of their victims for their release.

The three officers were dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) on February 7, 2025, and were handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for prosecution, alongside their civilian accomplices.

An investigation and orderly room trial were initiated by the police command, which confirmed their involvement in unprofessional conduct that was prejudicial to the discipline of the police force. As a result, the officers were dismissed from the force. Their official accoutrements have been retrieved by the Provost, and they cease to be members of the Nigeria Police Force.

The Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, reaffirmed the command’s zero tolerance for corruption and misconduct, emphasizing that "discipline and professionalism are the bedrock of the Nigeria Police Force." He assured the public that the command will not condone the activities of bad eggs in the force. The CP also reiterated his commitment to upholding the vision of the Inspector General of Police, which focuses on a professional, service-driven, and rule-of-law-compliant police force.
