The People's Democratic Party (PDP) is facing a significant shift as 10 of its serving lawmakers, along with their supporters, have decided to join the All Progressives Congress (APC). This development, primarily in Delta State, is expected to impact the state’s political balance significantly.
Former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, confirmed that 10 PDP lawmakers from the Delta State House of Assembly will be defecting to APC. With seven APC lawmakers already in the Assembly, the move would give APC a total of 17 seats, possibly changing the leadership of the House.
Omo-Agege attributed this growth in APC's strength to the economic policies of President Bola Tinubu, claiming they have resulted in a substantial increase in Delta State’s federal allocations. The defection of Chief Itiako Ikpokpo, a former Isoko South Local Government Chairman, was highlighted as a pivotal moment, with Ikpokpo pledging to help expand APC’s political presence in the state.
Local APC leaders, like Vincent Egbogbo, expressed confidence in the upcoming political victories, predicting a potential APC takeover of Delta State in the 2027 elections.
