In a tragic incident that occurred on January 23, 2025, an elderly woman named Kehinde Ojo was lynched by a mob in the Oke-Ijeun area of Abeokuta, Ogun State, over accusations of witchcraft. The allegations were raised after a prophetess from a white garment church claimed to have seen Ojo transform from a bird to a human and fall onto the church’s roof while praying.
A series of disturbing videos circulated on social media, showing Ojo lying weak and unable to speak, inside a pit as community members interrogated her. Despite her denials and pleas of innocence, Ojo was reportedly beaten by the prophetess and others for hours. She was later rescued by the Ogun State Police and taken to the hospital, but sadly succumbed to the injuries on January 25.
The victim's son, Kabir Kehinde, vehemently denied the witchcraft accusations, stating that his mother had simply lost her way while visiting his brother. He accused the prophetess and her son of inflicting the fatal injuries on his mother, who had impaired vision and had struggled to find her way. The incident has sparked outrage, and the prophetess has been arrested while an investigation continues.
