Nigerian Living In Egypt Assaults Girlfriend For Accusing Him Of Cheating, Confiscates Her Passport

A Nigerian woman living in Cairo, Egypt, named Akinboni Regina, has accused her boyfriend, Akinola Olalekan, of physically assaulting her and seizing her passport. According to a family source, the incident occurred last Saturday after the couple, who relocated to Egypt for better opportunities, had a dispute.

A video obtained by SaharaReporters shows Akinboni with a severe head injury and blood streaming down her face, allegedly inflicted by Olalekan. The family source revealed that Akinboni had suffered multiple abuses at the hands of Olalekan in recent times, and neighbors often intervened to rescue her. Despite this, Olalekan reportedly refused to return her passport, preventing her from returning to Nigeria.

When contacted, Olalekan admitted to hitting Akinboni, claiming it was due to frustration over her accusations of infidelity. He denied stabbing her and stated that the injury was unintentional. Olalekan also insisted that he had apologized and even paid part of her treatment costs. However, he denied confiscating her passport, accusing the family of lying.

The Nigerian community in Cairo reportedly intervened, with Olalekan being physically assaulted by fellow Nigerians for his actions. The incident has also been reported to the Egyptian police. Attempts to get a comment from Nigeria's Diaspora Commission were unsuccessful.

The case remains under investigation.
