An undetermined number of workers are trapped after the collapse of a two-storey building under construction in the Ikota area of Lekki, Lagos. The incident occurred around 3 p.m. on Tuesday, with most of those trapped reported to be construction workers present at the site.
Emergency responders from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the police have launched a search and rescue operation. As of the latest reports, two victims have been successfully rescued.
Mr. Adedotun Keshinro, the Commandant of the NSCDC, confirmed the incident and stated that the disaster management team is working in collaboration with the Eti-Osa Police Division and other agencies to locate and rescue any additional victims trapped under the rubble.
"A distress call was received at about 3 p.m. indicating that a two-storey building under construction had collapsed, trapping workers inside. The search and rescue operation is ongoing, and two individuals have been rescued alive," he said.
Authorities are continuing their efforts to ensure that everyone trapped is rescued as quickly as possible. Further updates on the situation are expected as the operation progresses.
