A notorious kidnapping and car hijacking gang that has been wreaking havoc across the Ezeagu community and along the Enugu/Onitsha Expressway was successfully neutralized by a local vigilante group. The gang, infamous for their violent tactics and criminal activities, was apprehended at the Obunofia axis of Ezeagu after an intense operation.
The gang, which had been a source of fear and distress to residents in the region, had carried out multiple high-profile crimes, including the hijacking of vehicles, abductions, and murders. Over recent months, they terrorized the 9th Mile area and neighboring communities, instilling panic among locals and travelers using the busy Enugu/Onitsha Expressway. Their modus operandi included luring unsuspecting drivers with promises of jobs only to trap them in dangerous situations where they would either be kidnapped or killed.
In a viral video circulating on social media, several of the gang members, who were captured by the vigilant community group, confessed to their role in the criminal operations. During their confession, the suspects revealed the extent of their heinous activities, detailing their involvement in the abduction of several individuals, as well as carjacking and the subsequent sale of stolen vehicles.
One of the most recent victims of the gang was a shuttle bus commercial driver, who was lured into a trap by the gang's deceptive promises of a job. Upon arriving at the designated meeting point, the driver was ambushed hit with a happer on his head but he managed to survive and is currently receiving treatment at the hospital and his. The gang members, however, did not stop there, they also confessed to targeting other vehicles, including a recent hijacking of a Sienna bus.
According to their statements in the video, the one of their accomplices, a member of Jehovah Witness facilitates their operations by providing cover and assisting in the transportation of the stolen vehicles, including getting buyers for them.
