HAPPENING NOW! PDP Expels Popular House Of Reps Member

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expelled Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, a prominent member representing the Ideato North/Ideato South Federal Constituency of Imo State, following allegations of indiscipline and anti-party activities. Ugochinyere, who is also the spokesperson for the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), was expelled after a thorough disciplinary process initiated by the party's local leadership.

The decision was formalized by the Ideato Local Government Area (LGA) chapter of the PDP in a letter sent to the state chairman on December 5, 2024. This action followed a series of incidents that led to his suspension in October 2024. He had been accused of neglecting party responsibilities, including missing numerous meetings despite being repeatedly invited. A committee tasked with investigating his conduct found that Ugochinyere had violated several key sections of the PDP Constitution.

Among the specific allegations were his failure to attend party meetings and engage in party activities over an extended period, a breach of party rules. He was also accused of publicizing internal party disputes, which worsened the party’s unity. Further investigation revealed that Ugochinyere had attempted to create parallel party structures at various levels, undermining the organizational integrity of the PDP. Additionally, his public criticisms of party leaders were seen as damaging to the party's reputation.

The local executive committee of the PDP, after reviewing the disciplinary report, unanimously decided to expel Ugochinyere. This move represents a significant shift in Imo State's political landscape, as Ugochinyere had been a key figure in both the opposition coalition and as a lawmaker. The PDP’s leadership emphasized that this decision was necessary to preserve party discipline and unity, especially in the lead-up to future elections.

The expulsion of Ugochinyere has stirred political conversations, particularly given his influence as a federal lawmaker and his role in the opposition. The development raises questions about how it will impact the political dynamics in Imo State and how the PDP’s relationship with opposition groups will evolve. The party's decision reflects a commitment to maintaining internal harmony and discipline, which it views as crucial for its future political aspirations.
