Breaking News! Police Ban Protests, Unauthorised Public Gatherings In Ekiti State

The Ekiti State Police Command has issued a directive banning unauthorized protests, public gatherings, and the sale and use of fireworks, citing security risks and concerns for public safety. This announcement was made through a statement released on Friday by the command's spokesperson, Abutu Sunday.

The police emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and ensuring the safety of residents, particularly with the festive season approaching. According to the statement, intelligence reports have indicated that certain individuals may attempt to use protests as a cover for violent actions that could potentially destabilize the state. As such, any form of unlawful gathering, protest, or demonstration will not be tolerated.

Furthermore, the police advised parents and guardians to be vigilant and ensure their children and wards avoid participating in activities that could disrupt the peace. The statement underscored that individuals found in violation of these directives will face legal consequences.

In addition to banning protests, the police also imposed a restriction on the sale and use of fireworks, knockouts, and firecrackers. The command explained that the noise generated by these items could be mistaken for gunshots, leading to public panic and confusion. This measure is part of the police’s broader efforts to ensure public safety during the festive period.
