Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has been released from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following recent allegations. Bobrisky had been detained amid circulating claims that he bribed EFCC officials with N15 million to have money laundering charges dismissed. He denied these allegations, which were brought to public attention through a viral audio recording.
The incident began when Bobrisky was apprehended late Thursday night at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. He was reportedly preparing to board a KLM flight to Amsterdam, intending to travel onward to London. During his detainment, he used social media to inform followers that he had sustained injuries.
Bobrisky was subsequently transferred to EFCC headquarters in Abuja, where he was questioned regarding the bribery accusations. The viral audio recording, shared by social commentator Martins Otse, allegedly features Bobrisky admitting to bribing EFCC officials with N15 million to evade legal proceedings. However, upon arrival at EFCC headquarters, Bobrisky strongly refuted these claims. In his statement, he challenged Otse to substantiate the recording's authenticity, firmly denying any financial transactions with EFCC officials and asserting that no official had requested a bribe from him.
An anonymous source familiar with the matter further explained Bobrisky’s stance. According to this source, Bobrisky unequivocally denied giving any money to EFCC officials, insisting that no one approached him for financial favors to dismiss the charges.
EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale confirmed that Bobrisky has been released from custody. However, Oyewale refrained from commenting further on the case, leaving open questions about the ongoing investigation and the veracity of the audio recording.
