The wife of the Ebonyi State governor, Chief Mrs. Mary-Maudline Ogbonna Nwifuru, has issued a strong condemnation of the mistreatment suffered by two teenage girls in Ojiegbe Ngbo community, located in Ohaukwu Local Government Area. In a deeply troubling incident, the two young girls were reportedly stripped naked and subjected to severe beating by local youths for allegedly stealing two live chickens.
In a statement signed by her press secretary, Nnenna Oshibe, Mrs. Nwifuru expressed her profound shock and outrage over a viral video circulating on social media, showing the humiliating treatment of the teenagers. She labeled the actions of those involved as a “grave violation of human dignity” and noted that such acts are unacceptable within Ebonyi State.
Mrs. Nwifuru emphasized that every citizen, particularly young girls and women, has the right to live without fear, harm, abuse, or violence, and that such mistreatment will not be tolerated. She reaffirmed the commitment of the current administration to ensure that justice is served, sending a clear message that the protection of vulnerable individuals remains a priority.
The governor’s wife commended the prompt action of the Ebonyi State Commissioner of Police, CP Anthonia A. Uche-Anya, and her team, who successfully apprehended the prime suspects, identified as Dennis Ali and Ituma Sunday. She urged local leaders to ensure that the victims receive appropriate care and advocated for preventive measures to avoid similar incidents in the future.
Furthermore, Mrs. Nwifuru reiterated the dedication of her foundation, BERWO, to continue its collaboration with agencies in supporting abuse victims and advocating for the welfare of women and girls across the state. She extended her sympathy and support to the affected families and reaffirmed her unwavering commitment to the fight against Gender-Based Violence, emphasizing the need for justice and compassionate care for survivors.
