November 29, 2024; a joint security operation involving the Police and the Anti-Vandal Group (AVG) led to the arrest of a couple, Mr. Okoye Kingsley, aged 36, and Mrs. Chidinma Okoye, aged 27, in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State. The couple was apprehended based on technology-driven intelligence that revealed their involvement in criminal activities.
The police recovered several mobile phones and SIM cards from the suspects. According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer for Anambra State, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the couple had been specializing in sending threatening messages to individuals, demanding ransoms while threatening to either abduct or kill their victims. Both suspects confessed to their crimes during interrogation and admitted to destroying some of the SIM cards they had used for these illegal activities.
Following the arrest, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, ordered that the case be transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping/Robbery Squad for further investigation. The couple is expected to be charged in court once the investigation is complete.
In a related matter, the police are investigating a recent voice note that emerged regarding a victim who narrowly escaped an abduction attempt by an alleged security operative. The police took this report seriously and are using all available intelligence tools to identify the suspects and prevent any future incidents.
