Governor Orders Conduct of Annual Convocation Programmes in All state's Tertiary Institutions

Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has issued a directive mandating annual convocation ceremonies in all state-owned tertiary institutions. Speaking at the Combined Convocation Ceremony for the 1994–2023 graduating classes of the Taraba State College of Education in Zing, Governor Kefas emphasized the importance of timely convocations for graduates, stressing that any delay in this regard would not be tolerated. He warned that institutional leaders who fail to adhere to this mandate would face consequences.

Governor Kefas expressed his dissatisfaction with the current practice of delaying convocations and vowed to uphold educational standards across the state. He reiterated his commitment to enhancing the quality of education, particularly through retraining and upgrading teachers' skills. Kefas further emphasized his dedication to his administration's free and compulsory education policy, cautioning that he would take decisive action against any official found sabotaging this initiative.

Addressing the graduating students, the governor congratulated them and urged them to represent the institution honorably as they transition into the professional world. He stated, “I want to make it clear today that I can tolerate any unwholesome conduct anywhere but not in education.”

The Provost of the college, Ejika Sambo, also addressed the gathering, highlighting the institution's achievements and educational offerings. He announced that the college was conferring degrees on 19,700 graduates from various departments, adding that the institution is equipped with a highly qualified faculty, including 70 doctorate-holding lecturers. The college offers both National Certificate in Education (NCE) and degree programs, with all courses fully accredited by relevant authorities.

Provost Sambo expressed gratitude to Governor Kefas for his ongoing support, which has been instrumental in securing accreditation for the college's programs. He assured attendees of the college's ongoing commitment to training competent teachers to meet the educational needs of Taraba State.

Established in 1978 during the former Gongola State era, the Taraba State College of Education has continued to uphold its mission of providing quality education and fostering professional development for teachers.
