The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Accord Party (AP) has expelled its 2023 presidential candidate, Christopher Imumolen, alongside seven key members, citing breaches of the party’s constitution. The announcement was made through a communiqué issued after the NEC meeting, signed by the National Chairman, Barr. Maxwell Mgbudem, and the National Secretary, Adebukola A. Ajaja.
The expelled members include Comrade Lanre Ogundare (Lagos State Chairman), Surajo Ibrahim (Zamfara State Chairman), Muktar Abdalla (Borno State Chairman), Chief Abiola Samuel Odeoba (former Ekiti State Chairman), Dr. Falaye Ajibola (former Ondo State Chairman), Prince Adebisi Wale Ganiy, and Dzingina Jacob Ephraim (Nasarawa State Chairman). Additionally, the NEC suspended Salimu Lawal Boyi (Katsina State Chairman), Fatima Mohammed Zarumi (Acting Yobe State Chairman), and Abdullahi Isa Kasowa (Bauchi State Chairman) for violations of specific constitutional provisions, including Article 20A (vii), (ix), (xiii), and 20A (1).
The NEC’s decision followed the adoption of a report submitted by a seven-member Disciplinary Committee established by the National Working Committee (NWC) to investigate allegations of gross misconduct and anti-party activities. The expelled members were accused of engaging in actions that undermined internal harmony and tarnished the party’s reputation.
The party emphasized the importance of upholding its constitution to maintain discipline and order within its ranks. According to the communiqué, the accused members were found to have caused anarchy and lawlessness, jeopardizing the unity and integrity of the Accord Party. The leadership reaffirmed its commitment to preserving the supremacy of the party’s constitution as a guiding principle for all members.
This decisive action highlights the Accord Party's resolve to address internal crises and ensure adherence to its foundational values as it continues to navigate the political landscape in Nigeria.
