A Russian plane carrying 95 people caught fire after landing at Antalya Airport in Turkey on Sunday night, prompting swift emergency measures that ensured all passengers and crew were safely evacuated without injury.
The aircraft, a Sukhoi Superjet 100 operated by Azimuth Airlines, had departed from Sochi and was transporting 89 passengers and six crew members. According to a statement from Turkey's Ministry of Transportation, the incident occurred shortly after the plane landed at 9:34 PM local time when the engine ignited.
Emergency services at the airport responded promptly, with rescue and firefighting teams successfully extinguishing the fire before it could spread. The passengers and crew were evacuated safely, with no reported injuries.
While the cause of the fire remains unknown, authorities have begun investigations to determine what led to the incident. Efforts are currently underway to remove the damaged aircraft from the runway, temporarily disrupting incoming flights. Departures, however, continued from a designated military runway.
The swift and effective response by emergency teams averted what could have been a major disaster, ensuring the safety of everyone on board.
