A tragic fire claimed the lives of four hotel workers in the Olodi Apapa area of Lagos after a lounge and bar located on Baale Road was engulfed by flames. The fire, which broke out around 7:45 a.m. on Sunday, left the workers trapped inside the building with no chance of escape.
Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident. Despite a prompt response from firefighters and police, the fire had already consumed the facility, leaving the four victims burnt beyond recognition. Their bodies were later evacuated and taken to the morgue at the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) in Yaba.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but authorities are working diligently to determine the exact circumstances that led to this devastating loss of life.
In a separate incident on Saturday, two people were killed and another critically injured after a fence collapsed during a heavy downpour in the Ejigbo area of Lagos. The victims, identified as Amaka (30), Etim (38), and Emmanuel (12), were walking along Apano Street when the fence of a nearby school gave way, crushing them beneath the rubble.
While Amaka remains in critical condition at Isolo General Hospital, Etim and Emmanuel were pronounced dead upon arrival. Both incidents have raised serious safety concerns across the state as investigations into the causes of the fire and the fence collapse continue.
These tragic events have left the community in mourning and heightened awareness of the need for improved safety measures to prevent future occurrences of such devastating accidents.
