PRESS BRIEFING: PDP Leadership Urges Unity Amid Internal Crisis, Calls for Adherence to Party Constitution

The Acting National Publicity Secretary of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Ibrahim Abdullahi Manga, addressed the press today at the NWC Hall of the PDP National Secretariat. The press briefing sought to clarify and address the ongoing crisis that has engulfed the party over the past few days.

In his statement, Ibrahim Abdullahi Manga made it clear that the actions of certain party members, which have threatened the corporate existence of the PDP, are not only condemnable but also pose a significant risk to the unity and progress of the party. He emphasized that the situation is no laughing matter and that urgent measures are needed to prevent the disintegration of the PDP.

"This is therefore a clarion call to all concerned to see to it that the PDP is not destroyed due to avoidable conflicts," Manga declared.

Drawing from the wisdom of former U.S. President John F. Kennedy, Manga stated, "Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other." He highlighted the need for PDP leaders and stakeholders to take this to heart, stressing that effective leadership within the party must be grounded in continuous learning and the application of knowledge. This, he argued, would help in mitigating conflicts and resolving issues that may arise from miscommunication or personal grievances.

Manga further emphasized the importance of making decisions that align with the party’s Constitution and extant guidelines. He warned against allowing “sentiments and personal interest” to overshadow the core principles that have guided the PDP over the years, noting that adherence to the rules is essential for the smooth administration and long-term survival of the party.

In no uncertain terms, Manga condemned the recent factionalism and infighting that have surfaced within the PDP, calling on all members to rally around the party's constitution as the supreme document that governs all activities. He urged party leaders at all levels to rise above personal ambitions and work collectively for the party's greater good.

The Acting National Publicity Secretary concluded his address by appealing for calm and unity within the party. He called on all factions to engage in constructive dialogue and to seek peaceful resolutions to their disagreements, warning that failure to do so would only serve to weaken the PDP ahead of future elections.

He assured party members and the public that the PDP remains committed to internal democracy and transparent governance, despite the recent challenges. "We must stand firm and united, for the sake of our party and for the sake of Nigeria’s democracy," he urged.

As the PDP navigates through this period of internal turmoil, the call for unity, respect for the party’s constitution, and the avoidance of self-interest is more critical than ever. The outcome of these internal challenges will undoubtedly shape the party’s future trajectory, not just as an opposition force but as a key player in Nigeria's democratic process.
