PDP Governors to Meet on Tuesday Ahead of Crucial NEC Meeting

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum is scheduled to hold a pivotal meeting in Abuja on Tuesday, ahead of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting slated for Thursday. This gathering is expected to address key issues within the party, as well as finalize the agenda for the upcoming NEC meeting.

In preparation for this major assembly, the Olagunsoye Oyinlola-led PDP Reconciliation Committee met on Monday at the NEC Hall of the PDP National Secretariat to put finishing touches on its report. The report, once reviewed, will be presented to the National Working Committee (NWC), which will, in turn, pass it on to the NEC for final approval.

Speaking after an extensive meeting with the PDP National Assembly Caucus, Oyinlola shared details of the committee's findings, stressing the importance of understanding the reasons behind the party’s declining political strength. According to him, the committee had gathered valuable input aimed at reuniting the party and reinforcing its structure.

“We’ve had useful discussions, and I believe we have gathered suggestions that will help unite our party and make it formidable,” Oyinlola stated.

He further highlighted the significance of unity within the party, noting that it is a prerequisite for success in any future political contests. “For any party to enter a political battle and win, it must be united. That’s what we’re aiming for,” he added.

With the upcoming Ondo governorship election on the horizon, Oyinlola noted that the South-West region had been a central focus during the committee’s reconciliation efforts. He affirmed that strategic preparations are underway to ensure a competitive edge for the party in the forthcoming election.

"The National Reconciliation Committee has toured the South-West, and the Ondo election came up prominently. We are putting our strategies in place," Oyinlola confirmed.

When asked about the committee’s efforts in resolving disputes among party members, Oyinlola explained that the focus was on reconciling individuals with personal grievances. He also addressed speculations regarding possible suspensions within the party, dismissing such rumors for the time being.

"As far as we’re concerned, I would take that as a rumor for now. We’re meeting with the National Working Committee tomorrow, so after that, you can ask me again,” he remarked.

The PDP Governors Forum meeting on Tuesday will be critical in determining whether the NEC meeting will proceed as scheduled or if it will be postponed. Additionally, the governors will deliberate on key agenda items to be discussed during the NEC meeting.

As the PDP works towards resolving internal challenges and positioning itself for future political battles, the outcomes of these meetings are expected to shape the party's direction in the coming months.
