Obi Visits Nnamdi Kanu, Confirms Health Status in DSS Custody

Hon. Obi Aguocha, the representative for Ikwuano/Umuahia federal constituency in Abia State, recently visited Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). This visit followed concerns raised over Kanu’s limited access to legal representation and growing questions regarding his health.

Nnamdi Kanu has been held in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since 2021, and recent reports suggested his isolation from his legal team. Hon. Aguocha’s visit, which took place on October 24, 2024, was a response to these concerns and aimed to assess Kanu's well-being and the conditions of his detention.

In a statement released by his media team, Hon. Aguocha confirmed that Nnamdi Kanu is in good health and remains strong. The lawmaker acknowledged the efforts of the DSS leadership, highlighting their commitment to addressing Kanu’s healthcare needs, including granting him access to private medical attention. According to the statement, Kanu recently received private medical care on October 3, 2024, under the supervision of a doctor of his choice.

Additionally, Hon. Aguocha’s visit resulted in a resolution to reinstate Kanu’s legal team’s access to him. This decision is seen as a positive step toward addressing the concerns surrounding Kanu’s rights and welfare in detention.
