North Get Ready to Separate from Nigeria

Prof. Sani Abubakar Lugga, the 5th Wazirin Katsina, has called for unity among the northern region as it contemplates the possibility of self-determination, reflecting similar sentiments from the southern region of Nigeria. He made this statement during a community engagement organized by the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) in Katsina.

Lugga emphasized the importance of readiness within the North, considering the growing calls for secession from the South. He expressed concerns over the lack of solidarity among northerners in defending their rights, drawing a stark contrast to the determination demonstrated by groups like the Biafrans. According to Lugga, the North needs to adopt the same proactive attitude displayed by the southern states, particularly in their approach to security challenges.

While the South has faced relatively less severe security issues, they have responded by establishing regional security outfits such as Amotekun, whereas the North remains largely passive in addressing its security concerns. Lugga pointed out the historical apprehension voiced by early Nigerian leaders regarding the amalgamation of the North and South. He argued that the union remains fragile and warned that the North might struggle to sustain itself should the South successfully pursue separation.

Additionally, CNG’s National Coordinator, Jamilu Charanchi, addressed the urgent need for northern communities to take initiative in tackling Nigeria’s socioeconomic and security challenges. Charanchi criticized the nation's leadership for prioritizing electoral processes over the country's future, urging northern communities to take control of their destinies through unified, grassroots-driven actions.
