Pa Bibire Lamidi, the owner of a collapsed building, has lost five of his children and grandchildren. The tragedy unfolded in the early hours of Thursday when the one-storey structure, located in Jegede, Olunloyo, within the Ona Ara Local Government Area, collapsed around 2 a.m., claiming multiple lives and leaving others critically injured.
Pa Lamidi, an octogenarian who housed mentally ill patients, was deeply affected as several of his patients also perished in the collapse. The Oyo State Police Command reported that survivors are currently receiving urgent medical care, having sustained severe and life-threatening injuries.
In an emotional recount, one of Pa Lamidi’s wives, Alhaja Yidiatu Lamidi, shared her sorrow: “I was not present when the incident happened. My husband told me he had just finished using the toilet when he suddenly saw the house crumbling. His children and grandchildren were among those lost. My husband treats mentally ill patients, and five of his children and grandchildren died in this tragedy. Some of his patients also lost their lives.”
Addressing whether the building had shown any signs of danger, Alhaja Yidiatu noted, “The house showed no signs of weakness. This feels like a spiritual attack.”
Pa Lamidi is currently undergoing medical treatment as he recovers from the traumatic experience.
