In a series of viral videos that surfaced this morning, suspected enforcers of the controversial Sit-at-Home order were allegedly seen setting fire to several vehicles, including trucks, buses, pickup vans, and cars along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway in Okigwe town. The disturbing footage captured voices in the background chanting, “Leave Nnamdi Kanu! If the Nigerian federal government doesn't leave Nnamdi Kanu, we will keep on destroying properties."
This incident is the latest in a string of violent actions allegedly linked to agitators protesting the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). The individuals in the video claimed they would persist in causing destruction until their demands for Kanu’s release were met.
In a related development, Emma Powerful, the spokesperson for IPOB, in a statement published by the Daily Post, distanced the group from the ongoing violence. According to him, "IPOB did not declare any Sit-at-Home order on October 21 and 22. The illegal order is from criminal elements and Finland-based infiltrators who are not our members."
The conflicting reports have left many questioning the true identity of the alleged enforcers. While IPOB has consistently condemned such violent acts and reiterated its commitment to non-violent agitation, these incidents have sparked fear and confusion among residents and travelers in the region.
Security agencies are yet to issue an official statement, but the Okigwe community and its environs remain tense following the attacks.
