Breaking News: Governor Clears N3.5 Billion Gratuity Backlog for State Pensioners


In a significant step towards alleviating the burden on pensioners, Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has ccleared additional N3.5 billion in gratuity payments. This is part of the state's ongoing effort to defray the N19 billion backlog of gratuities owed to senior citizens in the state.

Speaking during the 2024 Pensioners’ Day celebration in Ado-Ekiti, Governor Oyebanji reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of retirees. He highlighted that over 500 pensioners benefitted from this latest payment tranche, with N2.3 billion disbursed to state pensioners and N1.2 billion allocated to local government retirees.

In recognition of this effort, the President of the National Pensioners’ Association for the Southwest, Ayo Ikumapayi, alongside Ekiti State Chairman, Comrade Joel Akinola, commended the governor for setting a benchmark in pensioner welfare across the region. They lauded his administration for the steady reduction of outstanding gratuities, the regular payment of deductions, pension arrears, and the introduction of a free healthcare scheme for pensioners.

Governor Oyebanji’s actions continue to reinforce his administration's focus on addressing the financial challenges faced by retirees, offering them some relief after years of public service.
