Breaking News! Fire Guts State Independent Electoral Commission Office


The office of the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area was partially gutted by fire on Saturday, heightening tensions ahead of the local government elections. The Akwa Ibom Police Command confirmed the incident, emphasizing that no electoral materials were destroyed, and the elections are continuing as scheduled.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Timfon John, disclosed the development to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), assuring the public that increased security measures are in place across all AKISIEC offices and strategic locations within the state. “Some hoodlums partly torched the AKISIEC office in Ibiono Ibom, but election materials remained intact, and the election is ongoing,” John stated.

This incident has raised concerns about the security of the electoral process, but authorities have moved swiftly to bolster protection and ensure the integrity of the elections. The swift response from security agencies underscores the importance of a peaceful and fair election.
