The burial of the Sarkin Gobir of Gatawa District in Sokoto State, Alhaji Isa Muhammad Bawa, took place without his body. The traditional ruler was abducted, tortured, and killed by terrorists on Wednesday.
In a tragic video that circulated before his death, Alhaji Bawa was seen pleading for his life and urging the government to intervene. Despite the circumstances, the community conducted the burial in line with Islamic guidelines, which allow for a funeral without the physical presence of the deceased.
Photos from the event depict a somber ceremony held in the absence of the ruler's body, which remains in the custody of the bandits.
The community’s resilience in the face of such a tragedy highlights the ongoing security challenges in the region.
