— In a major boost to student welfare and access to higher education, the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has disbursed ₦120,365,200 to 474 students of the University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences (UAES), Umuagwo, Imo State, for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The intervention is expected to provide substantial financial relief to the beneficiaries, covering 100 per cent of statutory charges for all verified applicants and helping them pursue their academic goals with reduced financial pressure.
The university's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Christopher C. Eze, confirmed receipt of the funds in an official acknowledgment letter dated August 26, 2026, while expressing appreciation for NELFUND's support.
Details contained in the acknowledgment show that the disbursement was made in two batches:
₦105,447,000 was received on March 24, 2026, for 415 students.
₦14,918,200 was received on June 23, 2026, for 59 students.
The two payments bring the total disbursement to ₦120,365,200, benefiting 474 students of the institution.
The management of UAES praised NELFUND for its intervention, describing the support as an important contribution to students' financial stability and continued participation in higher education.
Speaking on behalf of the management, staff and students, Professor Eze expressed gratitude to the Fund for supporting the institution's beneficiaries.
The initiative reflects the growing importance of targeted education financing in helping students overcome financial obstacles, meet their academic obligations and remain focused on their studies.
NELFUND's disbursement to UAES highlights the Federal Government's ongoing efforts to widen access to tertiary education through its student loan programme.
For the 474 beneficiaries, the funding offers meaningful relief from statutory charges and reinforces the principle that financial constraints should not stand in the way of educational advancement.
As Nigeria continues to invest in human capital development, initiatives such as the NELFUND student loan scheme remain an important part of efforts to build a more accessible and inclusive higher education system.
