Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has received ₦1,749,312,800 in institutional fees from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) for the 2025/2026 academic session, with 14,990 undergraduate students covered under the intervention.
The disbursement represents one of the significant institutional payments under the Federal Government’s student loan initiative, providing financial relief for thousands of students at the Kano-based university and reinforcing efforts to remove financial barriers to tertiary education.
According to an acknowledgement letter dated July 15, 2026, and signed by the Registrar of Bayero University, Haruna Aliyu, the university received two batches of NELFUND institutional-fee payments totalling ₦1,749,312,800 for 14,990 undergraduate students.
The first tranche, released on April 30, 2026, amounted to ₦1,241,414,100, covering 10,617 students.
A second payment of ₦507,898,700 was released on June 23, 2026, covering another 4,373 students.
Together, the two disbursements brought the total number of beneficiaries to 14,990 students, with the institution confirming receipt of the full ₦1.749 billion credited for the session.
The intervention covers the statutory institutional charges of verified beneficiaries under the NELFUND scheme, ensuring that thousands of students can pursue their academic programmes without the immediate burden of institutional fees.
For the beneficiaries, the development represents more than a financial transaction. It provides an important cushion against fee-related interruptions and allows students to remain focused on their studies while accessing the support provided through the Federal Government's student financing framework.
