There is fresh relief for 139 students of Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba, Delta State, following the disbursement of ₦30,044,500 by the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) towards their approved institutional charges for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The disbursement, dated August 4, 2026, was formally acknowledged by the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Samuel Ovuete Aghalino, in an official letter addressed to the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NELFUND, Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr.
In the letter, the Vice-Chancellor confirmed that the university received Thirty Million, Forty-Four Thousand, Five Hundred Naira (₦30,044,500) for a total of 139 students benefiting from the NELFUND student-loan scheme for the 2025/2026 academic session.
Prof. Aghalino, on behalf of the management, students and beneficiaries of the institution, expressed appreciation to NELFUND for the disbursement and commended the Fund’s management for its effective administration of the student-loan programme.
The latest intervention represents another practical demonstration of the growing impact of NELFUND across Nigeria’s tertiary institutions, as the Federal Government’s student-financing initiative continues to provide relief to students and their families.
For the 139 beneficiaries at Dennis Osadebay University, the ₦30.04 million intervention goes beyond a financial figure. By covering the approved statutory charges for the verified beneficiaries, the disbursement helps reduce the immediate financial pressure associated with pursuing higher education and gives students greater confidence to continue their academic programmes without avoidable interruptions.
The development also highlights the expanding reach of NELFUND under the leadership of its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, whose administration has continued to focus on widening access, strengthening digital processing, improving institutional verification and ensuring that approved student financing reaches beneficiaries across the country.
NELFUND’s expanding interventions are increasingly giving practical expression to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision of making financial hardship less of a barrier to accessing tertiary education.
With hundreds of thousands of students already receiving support through institutional fee payments and upkeep allowances, the scheme is gradually becoming an important pillar of Nigeria’s tertiary education financing system.
