As political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Enugu State, the conversation surrounding Chief Geoffrey Uche Nnaji is increasingly shifting from media controversies to what many of his supporters describe as a vision for a new direction for the state.
They argue that Enugu's political discourse should rise above what they see as sustained media attacks and focus instead on the pressing issues affecting the people. According to them, governance should be measured by practical solutions to unemployment, economic growth, infrastructure, education, healthcare, security, and opportunities for young people rather than sensational headlines.
Supporters of the former Minister maintain that several allegations currently making the rounds against him remain matters before competent courts and should not be used to pronounce guilt outside the judicial process. They insist that due process must prevail, stressing that legal disputes should be resolved by the courts and not by public opinion shaped through media campaigns.
It is on record that throughout his two-year tenure as Minister, Chief Uche Nnaji did not carry out a single transaction on his designated salary account. The account remained untouched for the entire period he served in office. He had consistently expressed his intention to donate his ministerial salary to the less privileged, reinforcing his commitment to humanitarian service rather than personal financial gain.
His supporters also dismiss allegations concerning official vehicles, insisting that the facts surrounding the matter would be established in court. They further note that the certificate-related dispute is already before a court of competent jurisdiction, expressing confidence that the judicial process would ultimately determine the truth.
Beyond responding to the allegations, they emphasize that Chief Uche Nnaji's political ambition is anchored on presenting an alternative vision for Enugu State. According to them, the focus should be on building a stronger economy, creating sustainable employment opportunities, improving infrastructure, expanding access to quality education and healthcare, enhancing security, and promoting policies capable of attracting investment and stimulating industrial growth.
