JUST IN: Jonathan Picks Party to Contest 2027 Presidential Election

Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan is reportedly preparing to contest the 2027 presidential election under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

According to a senior figure within his circle, the decision followed extensive consultations aimed at identifying the most suitable political platform for his return to active politics. The move, the source noted, is driven by a desire to provide leadership capable of addressing Nigeria’s current economic challenges and rising poverty levels.

Following reports of his potential candidacy, multiple support groups have emerged, competing to raise funds for the PDP presidential nomination form, reportedly priced at about ₦100 million. The urgency has intensified as the submission deadline is said to be approaching.

These groups include diaspora-based supporters, northern coalitions, youth movements, and online campaign networks. Many have expressed readiness to purchase the nomination form on Jonathan’s behalf, claiming to represent broader national interests.

Although Jonathan has yet to make an official declaration, insiders suggest he has largely resolved to join the race. He is believed to see a return to office as an opportunity to tackle economic hardship and improve living conditions across the country.

Party sources also indicate that Jonathan has met key requirements to align with the PDP, including completing his registration earlier in the year, which has helped ease internal concerns about his membership status.

Meanwhile, the former president has approached the Federal High Court in Abuja in response to a legal challenge questioning his eligibility to run again. The suit centers on constitutional debates regarding the number of terms he has served, and the court’s decision is expected to determine whether he can formally participate in the 2027 presidential election.
