A major political development has unfolded in Rivers State as the All Progressives Congress (APC) screening committee for the State House of Assembly has disqualified 65 aspirants ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to emerging reports, all the affected aspirants are loyal to Governor Siminalayi Fubara. In contrast, 33 aspirants aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, were cleared by the committee.
The development effectively leaves the Wike-backed aspirants to contest the APC primary elections unopposed.
The screening committee’s report was made public on Monday by Wike’s media aide, Lere Olayinka.
The committee cited several reasons for the disqualification, including failure to meet financial membership requirements in line with the party’s constitution, submission of incomplete or invalid documentation, inconsistencies in personal records, and allegations of inducement and attempted bribery of committee members.
Other reasons listed include failure to provide valid voter cards, absence of party membership evidence, irregular nomination processes, and issues related to affidavit submissions and certificate documentation.
The report was signed by the committee chairman, Muraina Ajibola, and the secretary, Ishaku Tanko, among other officials.
This latest development marks a significant escalation in the ongoing political tensions within the APC in Rivers State as preparations intensify for the 2027 elections.
