Labour Party Elects Nenadi Usman as National Chairman

The Labour Party has elected Nenadi Usman as its new National Chairman during a national convention held in Umuahia, Abia State.

Usman, who previously served as Chairman of the party’s National Caretaker Committee, makes history as the first woman to emerge as National Chairman of a major political party in Nigeria.

Her emergence follows a ruling by the Court of Appeal on April 21, 2026, which affirmed her-led committee as the legitimate leadership of the party.

In her acceptance speech, Usman thanked party members for their support and pledged to reposition the party for greater success. She emphasized her commitment to unity, peace, and reconciliation within the party ahead of future elections.

She also commended Governor Alex Otti for his leadership, while the governor urged the newly elected National Working Committee to provide strong leadership and strengthen party structures nationwide.

Other members elected into the party’s National Working Committee include Iheanacho Obioma as National Secretary, Nike Oriola as Deputy National Chairman, Ken Eluma Asogwa as National Publicity Secretary, Oluchi Oparah as National Organising Secretary, Anslem Eragbe as National Financial Secretary, and Hilda Dokubo as National Women Leader, among others.

The newly elected committee has since been sworn in and has officially assumed office.
