In a swift and strongly worded reaction to the landmark judgment of the Supreme Court restoring the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) under Senator David Mark, frontline party stakeholder and House of Representatives hopeful for Igbo-Eze North/Udenue Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Ikechukwu Ezeugwu, PhD, has described the ruling as a historic victory for the rule of law and the triumph of justice over technical distractions.
The Supreme Court, in its judgment delivered on April 30, 2026, set aside the earlier directive of the Court of Appeal which had ordered a status quo ante bellum in the party’s leadership tussle, ruling that the lower court exceeded its jurisdiction. The decision effectively restored clarity and stability to the party’s national structure.
Reacting during a press briefing at his country home in Igugu, Udenu Local Government Area, Dr. Ezeugwu congratulated the party leadership for what he termed a “hard-fought and well-deserved victory,” noting that the verdict has reaffirmed the sanctity of internal democracy and institutional order within the ADC.
According to him, the apex court’s pronouncement is not just a legal victory for the party but a moral triumph for every committed member who remained steadfast despite the uncertainties that trailed the legal dispute.
“This judgment is a restoration of the soul of our great party. It proves that the path to justice may be long, but it is always certain. I sincerely congratulate our leadership for their resilience and commitment to defending the integrity of the ADC,” he stated.
Ezeugwu further emphasized that the ruling has now cleared the path for the party to focus on its core objective of offering Nigerians a credible alternative anchored on transparency, accountability, and people-centered governance.
Drawing from his rich legislative experience as former Leader of the Enugu State House of Assembly, he maintained that the same commitment to rule of law and institutional discipline must define leadership at all levels, particularly as the nation prepares for the 2027 general elections.
“Leadership is about a proven track record, not mere promises. In the State Assembly, we did not just make laws, we set standards that continue to stand as reference points today. That is the kind of experience and value I am bringing to the National Assembly,” he added.
The former lawmaker, who is widely regarded as a leading aspirant for the Igbo-Eze North/Udenu Federal Constituency seat, reiterated his readiness to deploy his wealth of experience and philanthropic background in service to the people, describing his aspiration as a “gold standard” built on competence, integrity, and compassion.
Observers note that Ezeugwu’s reaction to the Supreme Court verdict further reinforces his consistent stance on democracy and electoral integrity. Known for his outspoken opposition to electoral malpractice, he has repeatedly condemned the culture of rigging and political violence, aligning with reform advocates in calling for credible, transparent elections driven by technology and accountability.
His rising political profile was once again evident during the recently concluded ADC Congress in Enugu State, where he drew a mammoth crowd of supporters who flooded the venue with chants of solidarity and hope, carrying placards bearing his image alongside that of Peter Obi, with inscriptions such as “ADC ARISE” and “A New Nigeria is Possible.” The overwhelming turnout was widely interpreted as a clear demonstration of his growing influence and deep grassroots connection.
Similarly, his recent declaration of interest to contest for the House of Representatives seat at Udunedem Ward in Udenu Local Government Area was met with massive enthusiasm, as constituents and stakeholders rallied around him, expressing confidence in his capacity to deliver responsive and impactful representation.
A man of intellect, discipline, and proven compassion, Ezeugwu’s political journey continues to resonate with many as a symbol of credible leadership. From his philanthropic interventions through the Ikechukwu Ezeugwu Foundation to his legislative accomplishments and advocacy for electoral reform, he has consistently projected a vision of governance rooted in service and accountability.
With the Supreme Court verdict now putting to rest internal leadership disputes within the ADC, political watchers believe the party is entering a new phase of consolidation and strategic positioning ahead of 2027.
For Ezeugwu, however, the message is clear, beyond legal victories lies the greater task of rebuilding trust in governance and delivering a Nigeria that truly works for its people.
