Tragedy has struck the Anglican Diocese of Yola following the killing of Reverend Emmanuel Ezeokwe, the Vicar of Anglican Church, Zinai, Cathedral Archdeaconry, during a violent attack on Zinai community in Song Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The cleric was reportedly shot dead in the early hours of Tuesday when suspected bandits stormed the community and opened fire indiscriminately.
His death was confirmed in a statement issued by Ven. Andrew Izuakor, Administrator to the Bishop of the Diocese, the Most Rev. Markus Ibrahim. According to the statement, the attackers specifically targeted the priest during the assault, leading to his untimely death.
Describing the incident as a painful and devastating loss, the church called on Christians and the general public to pray for the bereaved family, the Zinai Church, the Cathedral Archdeaconry, and the entire Diocese of Yola.
The killing has sparked widespread grief within the church community, with many expressing shock over the violent death of the cleric, who served as the spiritual leader of the parish.
As of the time of filing this report, security authorities had yet to release an official statement regarding the attack.
