The (INEC) has adjusted the campaign timeline for the upcoming Osun State governorship election following its earlier decision to shift the poll date by one week.
The commission had in February revised its timetable for the 2027 election cycle, moving the Osun governorship election from August 8 to August 15, 2026. Consequently, the deadline for political campaigns has also been updated.
In line with Section 98(1) of the , all political campaigns must end at least 24 hours before election day. With the new election date, campaign activities are now expected to conclude by midnight on Thursday, August 13, 2026.
This was disclosed in a statement by , National Commissioner and Chairman of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee, who urged political parties and stakeholders to strictly comply with the revised schedule.
Haruna reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to delivering free, fair, credible, and inclusive elections, emphasizing the importance of adherence to electoral guidelines.
The adjustment ensures compliance with existing electoral laws while aligning campaign activities with the new poll date, as political parties intensify preparations for the Osun governorship election.
