‘While You Gather Books, We’ve Gathered AK-47 Rifles’: Bandit Kingpin Boasts In Katsina, Says They Lack Formal Education But Possess Gun Skills..

A yet-to-be-identified bandit kingpin has openly claimed that his group, though lacking formal education, is highly skilled in handling AK-47 rifles. The remarks came during a peace meeting in Dutsenma Local Government Area, Katsina State, where the kingpin and his followers met with authorities to discuss ongoing security challenges.

In a video shared online by security expert Zagazola Makama, the leader was seen holding a rifle while addressing his group and authorities. He asserted, “We did not go to school and we are not educated, but even without schooling, we know how to operate an AK-47.” He drew a stark comparison between his group and educated citizens, saying: “While you gather books on your shelves, we have gathered AK-47 rifles,” prompting cheers from his followers.

The bandit leader emphasized accountability in negotiations, insisting that promises made by authorities must be fulfilled. He raised concerns about members of his group detained across multiple states, including Katsina, Kano, and Abuja, criticizing the government for not honoring previous agreements.

Warning of potential consequences if their concerns are ignored, he said, “All the people you see here may disappear into the forest for months if we are not invited again for discussions. You may only find small children left behind.” He concluded by assuring that his group would respond to future dialogue if detained members were released.

This public statement highlights ongoing security and negotiation challenges in northern Nigeria, where banditry remains a persistent threat despite government efforts to broker peace.
