SAD: Enugu Man Rapes Pregnant woman, Attempted to Murder Her, Confesses to The Crime



The in has arrested a 24-year-old man, identified as Ugwu Desmond, over the alleged rape and attempted murder of a pregnant woman in Affa community, located in Udi Local Government Area.

The incident was confirmed in an official statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, who disclosed that the disturbing attack occurred on the night of March 14, 2026, along a quiet road in Amokwo-Affa.

According to the statement, the 30-year-old victim, whose identity has been withheld, was returning home from a neighbour’s residence when she was reportedly ambushed from behind by the suspect, who was said to be armed. She was overpowered and taken to an uncompleted building where the assault occurred. The victim sustained injuries during the attack.

Police authorities revealed that the survivor managed to report the incident in the early hours of March 15, prompting swift action by operatives of the Affa Police Division, who tracked and arrested the suspect shortly after. She was immediately taken to a medical facility for treatment and examination, while investigators processed the scene and recovered key evidence.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, described the incident as “deeply disturbing and unacceptable,” assuring residents that justice will be pursued diligently. He confirmed that the suspect has reportedly confessed and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The Command also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly, stressing the importance of community cooperation in preventing such crimes.
