HAPPENING NOW!! Political Tension As Nine Top Nigerian Senators Defect to ADC, More Set to Follow Suit

Nine senators in the National Assembly of Nigeria have announced their defection from their respective political parties to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing internal crises and disagreements within their former parties.

The lawmakers left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Five of the defecting senators — Dauda Yaroe, Lawal Usman, Ogochi Onawe, Aminu Tambuwal and Austin Akobundu — resigned from the PDP.

Three others — Ireti Kingibe, Victor Umeh and Tony Nwoye — left the Labour Party.

The remaining senator, Enyinnaya Abaribe, defected from APGA. Abaribe explained that his departure followed the party’s decision to remove him as a member in September 2025.

Eight of the senators who exited the PDP and LP attributed their decisions to lingering leadership crises and internal divisions within their parties.

The wave of defections is seen as a significant boost for the ADC and signals a new round of political realignments ahead of future electoral contests in Nigeria.
