Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a former two-term councillor in Ibeju-Lekki, Sheleru Sadiq Olalekan, over his alleged involvement in illicit drug trafficking.
According to the anti-narcotics agency, the arrest followed credible intelligence linking the former lawmaker to a network engaged in the sale and distribution of illegal drugs within the area.
NDLEA operatives reportedly placed the suspect under surveillance for a period before carrying out a targeted operation that led to his arrest.
The agency disclosed that investigations are currently ongoing to determine the full extent of the suspect’s alleged drug trafficking activities and to uncover other individuals who may be connected to the operation.
Authorities added that the former councillor may face prosecution if the allegations are confirmed, reiterating the NDLEA’s commitment to intensifying its crackdown on drug-related crimes across Nigeria.
