BREAKING: First Sitting Governor Concludes Plan To Join ADC

The (ADC) may soon record a historic breakthrough as Bauchi State Governor has indicated plans to defect from the (PDP) amid ongoing internal crisis.

Governor Mohammed, who also serves as Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, made this known on Tuesday while receiving a high-powered ADC delegation led by at the Government House in Bauchi.

Speaking to journalists after a closed-door meeting, the governor expressed frustration over failed reconciliation efforts within the PDP, describing the situation as deeply troubling.

“We have found ourselves in a very serious situation. I have done everything possible to ensure reconciliation, but it has not worked,” Mohammed stated, noting that various committees set up at national and state levels had been unable to resolve the crisis.

He revealed that consultations had extended beyond the PDP, including engagements with members of the (APC), but said those efforts did not yield acceptance.

According to him, the ADC has emerged as the most viable political platform so far, though discussions are still ongoing with key stakeholders to ensure a well-calculated move.

“As of now, ADC appears to be a very welcoming and acceptable platform. However, we have not concluded discussions,” he said, adding that a final decision is expected within days.

The governor also accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, , of exacerbating divisions within the PDP, while confirming that he had reached out to several political leaders, including President , in a bid to resolve the impasse.

Earlier, Lawal disclosed that the ADC delegation was in Bauchi on the directive of the party’s national leadership under former Senate President , to formally invite Mohammed to join the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He emphasized that uniting opposition forces would be critical to “rescuing Nigeria” in 2027, expressing optimism that the engagement with the Bauchi governor would yield positive outcomes.

If finalized, Mohammed’s defection would mark a major political shift, potentially giving the ADC its first sitting governor and significantly altering Nigeria’s opposition dynamics ahead of the next electoral cycle.
