In 2019, an Azman Air Boeing 737 was taxiing from the gate at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, Nigeria when a man came sprinting out of nearby bushes carrying a suitcase and ran directly toward the moving aircraft.
Ground crew and passengers watched in disbelief as the man tossed his luggage into what he apparently thought was a convenient storage compartment — the jet engine — and then climbed onto the wing, gripping the surface and positioning himself as though he were preparing for takeoff.
Airport security and ground staff rushed to intercept the man and remove him from the aircraft before any harm could come to him or the engine.
The flight was delayed while the engine was inspected to ensure the suitcase had not caused any damage to the turbine blades or intake components.
The man was taken into custody, and while his motivations were never fully clarified, the incident was captured on camera by airport workers and spread rapidly across social media, drawing a mix of shock, amusement, and concern about perimeter security at one of West Africa's busiest airports.
