The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Enugu State, under the able and purposeful leadership of *Rtn. Dr. Sunday Okafor,* warmly commends the Executive Chairman of Aninri Local Government Area, *Prince Stephen Ugochukwu Nwanjoku,* for the bold and visionary step of initiating and flagging off the construction of a 50-bed General Hospital in Aninri LGA.
We particularly appreciate His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Enugu State, *Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah,* who was ably represented at the event by the Special Adviser on Health Matters, Dr. Yomi Jaye, for his *stellar leadership, unwavering support and for fostering an enabling environment* that encourages grassroots-driven healthcare development across the State.
This historic initiative is noteworthy as it *represents one of the first instances* where a Local Government Chairman in the State has embarked on the construction of a full-fledged secondary healthcare facility of this scale.
When completed, the hospital will significantly complement the ongoing efforts of His Excellency in the revitalisation and expansion of secondary healthcare services across Enugu State.
The 50-bed General Hospital will not only ease the burden on existing facilities but also strengthen referral linkages from the 260 Type-2 Primary Health Centres (PHCs) being constructed across the State. *```It is a strategic intervention that aligns perfectly with the broader vision of building a resilient, accessible, and people-centered health system.```*
The NMA Enugu State recognizes this project as a *forward-thinking investment in public health—* one that prioritizes life-saving services, reduces avoidable morbidity and mortality, and brings quality healthcare closer to the people of Aninri and surrounding communities.
We therefore commend Prince Ugochukwu Nwanjoku for demonstrating *responsive leadership by identifying a critical need and taking concrete steps to address it.* This initiative reflects a commendable understanding that healthcare infrastructure remains central to sustainable community development.
