HAPPENING NOW!! President Tinubu Directs Rivers Assembly to Suspend Impeachment Proceedings

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reportedly directed the Rivers State House of Assembly to immediately halt all ongoing impeachment proceedings, following rising political tensions within the state legislature.

According to information circulating on Wednesday, the President instructed lawmakers to suspend any impeachment-related actions with immediate effect. The directive is said to apply to all members involved in the process.

In addition, President Tinubu reportedly ordered the lawmakers to consult with the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for further guidance. The move is aimed at aligning the actions of party members in Rivers State with the position of the APC’s national leadership and preventing further escalation of the crisis.

The intervention comes amid heightened political tension in Rivers State, where prolonged disagreements among key political actors have drawn national attention and raised concerns over governance stability.

While details of the impeachment process were not officially disclosed, impeachment proceedings in Nigeria typically involve allegations of misconduct or constitutional breaches and often generate intense political conflict capable of disrupting governance.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official confirmation from the Presidency regarding the directive. The Rivers State House of Assembly has also not issued a formal response.

Political observers note that Rivers State has a long history of political rivalry, with disputes frequently spilling into legislative affairs. Legal experts, however, emphasize that impeachment is constitutionally the responsibility of state legislatures, even though party-level interventions are common in Nigeria’s political landscape.

Stakeholders continue to monitor developments closely as official statements from the Presidency, the APC leadership, and the Rivers State House of Assembly are awaited.
