BREAKING!! Wike Escapes Assassination Attempt as Police Invite Rivers Ex-SSG for Questioning

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reportedly escaped an alleged assassination attempt following the uncovering of a plot said to be targeted at his life, prompting swift intervention by security agencies.

In connection with the alleged plot, the Nigeria Police have invited a former Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Tammy Danagogo, for questioning as part of an ongoing investigation. Danagogo is expected to report to the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) Complex, Old Abattoir, near Guzape Junction, Abuja, on Thursday, January 15, 2026, by 10:00 a.m.

According to an official police invitation, the interrogation is described as a fact-finding exercise conducted in the interest of justice and fairness, in line with Section 53(2)(C) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015.

The police action follows the circulation of an alleged leaked audio recording, which security sources claim contains discussions relating to a plan to assassinate the FCT Minister. In the purported recording, Danagogo was allegedly in conversation with a Port Harcourt–based pastor, Tombari Joseph Gbeneol, during which they reportedly discussed strategies to eliminate Wike.

A source familiar with the investigation alleged that the conversation included plans to engage foreign nationals, reportedly Israelis, to carry out the attack. The discussion was also said to have touched on the need to secure substantial funding to execute the alleged plot.

It was further gathered that Pastor Gbeneol has already been arrested by the Police in connection with the matter, following the interception of the alleged phone call. Security operatives reportedly moved swiftly after analysing the communication, which they believed posed a credible threat.

According to investigative findings still under review, the conversation allegedly ended with a proposal to seek financial support from Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, to bankroll the purported operation. There has, however, been no official confirmation linking the governor to the alleged plot.

While details of how the plot was foiled remain classified, sources indicated that timely intelligence gathering and surveillance by security agencies helped prevent any harm to the minister.

Neither Danagogo nor representatives linked to him have publicly responded to the allegations as of the time of filing this report. The Rivers State Government has also not issued an official statement on the matter.

The Police have assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that all individuals found culpable will be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law.
