Former First Lady of Ogun State Is Dead!

Chief (Mrs) Lucia Onabowale Onabanjo, wife of Ogun State’s first civilian governor, Chief Olabisi Onabanjo, has passed away at the age of 100. She reportedly died on Monday, January 11, 2026, marking the end of a long and fulfilled life devoted to family, faith, and service.

The news of her passing was confirmed on Tuesday in a statement issued by her daughter, Mrs. Olubukunola Onabanjo, Chairman of the Ogun State Local Government Service Commission. The family announced the death with deep sorrow but expressed gratitude to God for her longevity and impactful life.

According to the statement, Chief (Mrs) Lucia Onabanjo, born in 1925, was a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose legacy was defined by love, strength, and unwavering faith. The family thanked God for the values she instilled and prayed for the peaceful repose of her soul.

The late matriarch was married to Chief Olabisi Onabanjo, who served as Ogun State’s first civilian governor from October 1979 to December 1983 during Nigeria’s Second Republic and remains a notable figure in the state’s political history.

As of the time of filing this report, the family had yet to announce details of her funeral arrangements.
