BREAKING: Tinubu Approves Posting of Ambassadors to US, UK, France, Turkey
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the posting of four ambassador-designates from the list of 68 nominees earlier cleared by the Senate in December, marking a significant step in strengthening Nigeria’s diplomatic representation abroad.
The President confirmed the appointment of Ayodele Oke as Nigeria’s Ambassador to France, while Colonel Lateef Are has been posted to represent the country in the United States of America. Also approved is Amin Dalhatu, a former Nigerian envoy to South Korea, who has now been appointed as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom. In the same vein, Usman Isa Dakingari Suleiman, a former Governor of Kebbi State, has been named Nigeria’s Ambassador to Turkey.
The latest postings come ahead of President Tinubu’s planned state visit to Turkey next week, underscoring the administration’s efforts to reposition Nigeria’s foreign relations and diplomatic engagements with key global partners.
In a memo addressed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the President directed the ministry to formally notify the governments of the four host countries of the appointments, in line with established diplomatic procedures and conventions.
The announcement was contained in a statement signed by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, and released on January 22, 2026.
