Controversial Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has alleged that he was secretly listed among individuals marked for elimination alongside Boko Haram members, citing information he claimed to have received from security sources in Abuja.

Speaking to his congregation, Gumi said he received an early morning call from an undisclosed contact who revealed that his name appeared in a high-level security briefing.

“They called me from Abuja and said I have been marked for elimination. And who are Boko Haram?” he stated, adding that the caller warned him that he was allegedly targeted.

Gumi further accused the United States of playing a role in the rise and persistence of Boko Haram, questioning international involvement in Nigeria’s internal security challenges. “Even the Americans said they came to fight terrorists. So who are the terrorists?” he asked, alleging that foreign actors are fueling unrest in the country.

The cleric also criticized misinformation, divisive narratives, and leadership failures, claiming that political and religious elites have remained silent while Nigeria faces escalating insecurity. He argued that no sovereign nation should allow external interference that pits citizens against one another.

“Which country would accept something that divides its own people?” Gumi asked, lamenting what he described as oppression, hardship, and erosion of citizens’ rights.

He urged leaders and religious figures to engage openly with the public to prevent further deterioration, warning that fear, silence, and distrust continue to drag Nigeria backward.
