Bandits have struck again in Kaduna State, abducting four travellers in Kajuru Local Government Area, barely days after the mass kidnapping of 177 worshippers in Kurmin Wali community.

The latest attack occurred on Friday evening along the Maro–Kajuru road as the victims were returning from Maro Market. The travellers were said to be onboard a Peugeot Boxer bus when armed men intercepted the vehicle near Kuturu Buzu, a location close to Kurmin Wali where the earlier abduction took place.

A community source disclosed that the assailants stopped the bus and forcibly dragged the passengers into the bush.

“The victims were on their way back from purchasing items at Maro Market when the bandits attacked and dragged them into the bush,” the source said.

The incident has heightened fear across Kajuru and neighbouring communities, with residents lamenting the repeated attacks and the continued operation of armed groups in the area.

Efforts to obtain a response from the Kaduna State Police Command proved unsuccessful, as calls and messages sent to the police spokesperson were not answered.

Meanwhile, insecurity is reportedly spreading beyond Kaduna to parts of southern Katsina State, where residents have raised concerns over renewed threats, killings, and kidnappings despite earlier peace agreements with bandits.

Community members allege that attackers now openly place phone calls to residents, demanding levies and issuing threats. Locals attribute the situation to inadequate security presence, which they say has emboldened the attackers and forced many families to flee their homes.

“The bandits call people on the phone, threatening them and demanding money. We don’t see enough security personnel here, and that is why they are bold,” a resident said.
