Panic in Enugu As Princess Ada Ogbu Resigns from APC, Triggers Political Realignment

The resignation of Princess Adaku Ogbu Aguocha, popularly known as Ada Ogbu, from the All Progressives Congress (APC) has sparked renewed political conversations across Enugu State, marking a significant moment in the state’s opposition politics.

Ada Ogbu formally announced her exit from the APC in a resignation letter dated December 30, 2025, addressed to the APC Caretaker Ward Chairman of Nara Ward I in Nkanu East Local Government Area. Her decision brings to an end over 14 years of active involvement with the party, during which she emerged as one of its most prominent and consistent figures in Enugu State.

A former APC senatorial candidate for the Enugu East Senatorial District, Ada Ogbu has long been regarded as one of the party’s strongest voices in the South-East, particularly at a time when the APC struggled to gain firm electoral footing in the region. She was among the earliest Enugu indigenes to align with the party at its formative stage, joining at its inception in Bourdillon Avenue, Lagos.

In her resignation letter, Ada Ogbu explained that her decision was informed by “evolving realities” and a personal reassessment of how best to continue serving her constituents. She described the move as the outcome of careful reflection and extensive consultations with family members, friends and trusted political associates.

Throughout her years in the APC, she served in various capacities as a grassroots mobiliser, party organiser and advocate of the party’s ideals at ward, local government and state levels. Her political profile rose further following her emergence as the party’s senatorial flag bearer in Enugu East, a position that made her one of the APC’s most recognisable figures in the zone.

Despite her departure, Ada Ogbu maintained a conciliatory tone, expressing gratitude to the party for the opportunities and leadership exposure she received over the years. She stressed that her resignation was not driven by personal grievances, thanking party leaders and supporters while acknowledging the role the APC played in shaping her understanding of democratic governance and public service.

The timing of her resignation has heightened political speculation, coming amid growing opposition realignments linked to the emerging coalition around former presidential candidate Peter Obi and the African Democratic Congress (ADC). In recent weeks, several politicians across party lines have defected to the ADC, a development analysts have described as the expanding “Peter Obi wave.”

Although Ada Ogbu did not disclose her next political destination, her exit is widely seen as symbolically significant, particularly as Enugu State is expected to play a strategic role in anticipated opposition movements ahead of the 2027 general elections. Her resignation further underscores the shifting dynamics within Enugu’s political landscape as alignments continue to evolve.
